European Court Decision

On November 15, 2016, the European Court of Human Rights issued its judgment on the case, Krejzová v. the Czech Republic. The Court decided that there is the right to attendance at planned home birth is a limited right, not an absolute or unlimited right. Our WAPM Work Group submitted an intervention, known in the United States as an amicus curiae (friend of the court) brief. The Court’s decision includes an accurate summary of the Working Group’s intervention, which was helpful to the Court in reaching its final decision. This decision has important implications for countries in Europe and throughout the world.
